Capstone Project, 2025

For my junior-year STEAM capstone project, I wanted to combine the three things that mean the most to me: art, psychology, and helping others. Because art has been such an important tool in my own mental health journey, especially with OCD, I decided to create a project that could help others!

My Purpose

My goal was to design an accessible, affordable Art Therapy Kit that helps people express their emotions and use creativity as a form of healing. Therapy can be expensive, and while this kit in no way can replace that, it can help people come to terms with their emotions. I didn’t want it to feel like “just an art box.” I wanted it to feel personal and grounded in real psychology. I started off with just a prototype, in hopes that one day, I could eventually sell it to people all over the world!

Included:

My kit was completely hand-designed and included a variety of tools that support emotional expression:

Small coloring book: a private space for thoughts, feelings, and creative journaling

Colored pencils + drawing pencils: easy mediums for anyone, no experience needed

Emotion tracker cards: daily prompts for identifying moods and patterns

Prompt cards (100 reusable): creative exercises that build self-awareness

Affirmation stickers: positive reinforcement rooted in cognitive psychology

A visual-guide booklet: explaining how each item helps with emotional regulation
